Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital

This hospital has some of the friendliest and caring staff that you will meet. They have a really nice Birthing Center and NICU also. I’ve noticed many efforts towards improvements on updating the building itself in recent years and currently. The grounds have many mature trees and beautiful landscaping. Security patrols all areas and will assist visitors in need from the parking lots.

10/17/2023 - 10/18/2023 Horrible hospital I would not recommend going there. 10 o'clock this morning after holding me overnight to redo a test that they didn't do told me they was gonna release me, gave me my released papers sometime afternoon, but then kept me in the room until 5 o'clock and now I'm not. Able to get the medication of blood thinner that they say I need to take. Because I have a blood clot in my right lung. And they release me so late that I don't have time to find it would not recommend going there. 11/26/2023 Update to this review. It's been over a month. Recently found out that they charged me over $20,000 for 1 night was placed on a blood thinner because of a blood clot in my right lung. I have been without medication for over a week now. No one at the hospital will help me. The doctor is refusing to reply to the pharmacy(cvs) and they insist that I come back to the emergency room. So they can do a follow-up when I still have 2 refills. They want me to come back to the hospital. So they can charge me more money instead of letting me take my medication until I get to my regular doctor. Maybe I should get a lawyer.

From check in I was greeted kindly and everyone was professional and polite! My nurse Ali was awesome and the anesthesiologists were as well. Bedside manner was great all around. It really makes a difference when you receive great care! My anxiety was all the way down thanks to how I was handled by all staff I encountered and I’m happy to give a five star rating on my experience at St Vincent Southside. Keep up the great work!

Very pleasant experience. Staff was friendly, professional, helpful and willing to accommodate the patient. Clean and refreshing surrounding. The nurses, doctor’s were all professional and did their jobs well. Dr Scott Cooper is the best Doctor I’ve ever had. He has his patients needs forefront in his mind. He is professional, knows his craft well and takes time to go over your procedure and results. Never in a hurry until he knows he’s fully taken care of you.

Filthy ER (dead bugs), dirty bathrooms including in operating rooms. I spent one night after orthopedic surgery. I had a newly graduated nurse without competent supervision, a danger to his post-op patients. For 10 hours, forgot to use pneumatic device for to prevent clotting post op until I asked him why it was missing. Forgot to monitor intake & output. No TP in the bathroom so he left me there alone with the door shut, in a drugged state unable to reach call light. Couldn’t replace ice pack to control swelling since they didn’t have enough packs. When I finally got one, I woke up with it still on 3 hours later, which can cause frostbite. I asked for pain medicine that was due, but he said it wasn’t due for an hour-a long time for someone with post surgical pain. I asked him to go & verify. I was right. The MD had said it was very important to ambulate on the day of surgery to prevent blood clots. I asked to be helped up but the nurse said he was too busy. Physical Therapy was also too busy. The nurse & technician both managed to bump my foot hard. Excruciating. Did not check my dressing for 3 hours until I asked. Did not seem to know how to get a patient with a walker up to the bathroom safely…like disconnect all connected machines first. Nursing staff were joking and laughing loudly all night long in the nurses’ station, oblivious to the suffering of the patients in their care. I did not sleep at all. You can get create an operating room anywhere, but must be in a hospital for nursing care. Ascension St Vincent’s endanger their patients with poorly trained, indifferent staff. It’s all about leadership. My surgeon has a great reputation, but except for the surgery, I must deal with minimally trained physician assistants. In the future I will find a surgeon with privileges elsewhere.

I have been so impressed and satisfied with every visit and phone call to this outstanding medical facility! During an extremely difficult time, all physicians and staff have been so compassionate, thorough, professional and supportive as I navigated the uncertainties of my medical issues. I couldn’t be more pleased with the care I have received from these wonderful professionals! They even made me laugh! Thank you so much, especially to Dr. Raid Ossi in Neurology and his medical assistant, Misty - very special individuals!
